❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from San Juan to Fajardo?
Fajardo is about 35 miles east of San Juan, approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour by car depending on traffic. You can rent a car, take a taxi ($80-100), use Uber/Lyft, or book a tour that includes transportation from San Juan hotels. Our tours include hotel pickup from San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde, and other areas.
Where does the ferry to Culebra/Vieques leave from?
The ferry terminal moved from Fajardo to the former Naval Station Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba in 2018. It’s now called the Ceiba Ferry Terminal, about 10 minutes south of downtown Fajardo. Book ferry tickets in advance at puertoricoferry.com as they sell out quickly.
When is the best time to visit the bio bay?
The bioluminescence is visible year-round, but the best viewing is on nights with little to no moonlight (around the new moon). Cloud cover can also help by blocking ambient light. Tours run nightly except during full moon periods when the glow is harder to see.
Can I combine a bio bay tour with other activities?
Yes! Many visitors combine a daytime El Yunque rainforest tour with an evening bio bay kayak tour for the ultimate Puerto Rico experience. We can help arrange combo packages. The bio bay tours start after sunset, leaving plenty of time for daytime adventures.
Do I need to know how to kayak for the bio bay tour?
No prior kayaking experience is needed! Our guides provide instruction before you enter the water. The bay is calm and protected, making it suitable for beginners. We use stable tandem kayaks, and guides are always nearby to assist.
